Calorie counting, do you need to do it?
During the last six months as I started going back to the gym and thinking more about my diet, which was pretty healthy anyway thanks to my partner Judie, I have paid more attention to my own diet. Specifically my intake of fat, calories, proteins, carbohydrates and salt.
I started to read more on the many types of diets out there and suddenly realised that whilst many of them do offer some degree of help in either reducing weight or bulking out, many do not offer a long term solution I can live with. I would love to spend hours every day preparing exotic meals and power shakes etc., but the reality is that I have a life, a family a job, a sideline business and I occasionally like to sleep.
I have slowly come to realise that the simple approach is better. A healthy balanced diet, is much better for me than any of the fad diets out there. Yes it make take a little more work in the gym or on my pushbike but I feel better doing it this way.
I do keep an eye on the amount of calories I take in every day, I aim for 2000 per day with a reasonably intense cardio and gym programme, but I don’t panic if I go over over that level occasionally. This way I am able to incorporate my diet into my daily life without it causing me any extra work or inconvenience.
Over the next few months I’ll put together the diet that seems to work for me and you can all take the best bits of it for your own diet if you wish.
Good luck!
Mark
